Ag Day at Illinois State Fair moved to include more ag youth

Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair has been moved earlier to accommodate more youth exhibitors.

Director of Agriculture Jerry Costello says traditionally, Ag Day is the first Tuesday of the fair, after many schools have already started the fall semester.

“The date that schools start keeps getting moved up, so moving Ag Day to August 11th, which is a Friday, I believe will enable more kids and family to be at the fair on Ag Day.”

He says the move will allow the state’s ag youth to be a highlight of ag day.

“The Illinois State Fair is an ag-centric fair. If you look at that Friday, Saturday and Sunday encompassing the weekend, a lot of the juniors are there showing livestock.”

Junior shows for some breeds of beef, goats and swine are scheduled for Friday, August 11th as well as 4-H general project exhibits from 33 counties. Country music group Old Dominion will be featured at the grandstands.

Tuesday, August 15th will now have a “Twosday” theme including discounted $2 admission for adults and $2 carnival rides.

The 2023 Illinois State Fair runs August 10-20 in Springfield.
