Ag contribution to Missouri’s economy increases

A new study shows Missouri’s agriculture contribution to the state’s economy has increased over the past five years.

Ag Director Chris Chinn tells Brownfield the 2021 economic contribution from agriculture was $90-Billion dollars – compared to $88.4 Billion in 2016. She calls the results exciting, “Our job contribution has increased by more than 78,000 jobs in Missouri and our value-added contribution increased by $1.9 Billion dollars so it was really positive news for Missouri agriculture.”

Chinn says it shows Missouri farmers are productive and resilient, “Even though we had the pandemic that has impacted their way of life they kept working every single day to make sure they were putting food not only on their tables but on the tables of other Missourians as well.”
