African swine fever found in Hunan Province

China has notified the USDA that new cases of African swine fever have been detected, according to a report from the Foreign Ag Service.  This is the fourth notification since the end of January.

FAS says the latest cases were detected when authorities found the illegal transportation of live hogs from outside of Hunan Province.  There were 61 susceptible animals found, three of which were infected and died, and the remaining animals were euthanized.

Chinese officials say they continue to monitor herds for African swine fever.
