AEM: Dairy technology increases efficiency

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers says the use of technology in dairy production is helping the industry become more sustainable.

Director of Agriculture Austin Gellings tells Brownfield, “If we were to continue on the trend that we’re currently on, we could see an improvement in milk yield by about 3%, a decrease in land usage by about 4%, a decrease in emissions by about 8% and a decrease in water usage by about 3%.”

He expects the industry to continue adding automation.

“If we were to produce in 2030 the same amount of milk that we’ve produced today, we could do so with 1.3 million less cows, potentially because it would be that much more efficient.”

And Gellings says new technology gives farmers more flexibility in their operations.
