Administration announces energy plan in response to high gas prices

In response to skyrocketing price hikes on gas prices, President Biden has announced a two-part plan to bring relief to American families.

Deputy White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi tells Brownfield “the first is announcing a historic release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve—1 million barrels per day for six months—to immediately increase the supply of oil as a wartime bridge to greater domestic production.”

Zaidi says the president is also proposing a ‘use it or lose it’ policy that would incentive producers to producer more in the short-term to meet this need.

Biden is calling on Congress to make companies pay fees on wells from their leases they haven’t used in years and on acres of public lands that are hoarding without producing.

There is also a focus on achieving real American energy independence by accelerating toward clean energy and homegrown fuels.

“The American energy independence we seek is going to require us harnessing a broad set of technologies and a broad set of fuel sources,” he says. “The proposal the president has put before Congress and called on them to pass today, would invest in expanding our domestic sustainable aviation biofuels. It would expand investment in critical infrastructure like blender pumps and as a result it would help us bring to market fuels literally grown here in the soil of the United States.”

Biden is calling on Congress to pass his plan to speed the transition to clean energy that’s made in America. He says he will issue a directive authorizing the use of the Defense Production Act to secure American production of critical materials.
