Additional cases of HPAI detected in Nebraska

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection service have confirmed two cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

NDA says a commercial flock in Eastern Nebraska’s York County and a backyard flock in Box Butte County in Western Nebraska have tested positive bringing the state’s total to 11.

USDA’s Animal and Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and the Nebraska Department of Agriculture will establish a 6.2-mile surveillance zone will be established around the flocks.

State Veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley says the flocks have been depopulated and disposed of and poultry producers in the surveillance areas should report signs and symptoms of HPAI to NDA immediately.
