Activists want to end ‘mutton-busting’

An animal rights group is calling on Denver’s National Western Stock Show to stop its popular mutton-busting competition.

The group, called Direct Action Everywhere, calls it cruel and barbaric and says sheep are often injured during the event. It says nearly 90-thousand people have signed an online petition calling for an end to the popular competition.

Mutton-busting features kids between five and seven years old trying to hang on as long as they can while riding on the back of a running sheep. A statement from the stock show says the mutton-busting event “has strict rules that are enforced for the safety of both the animals and children”.

  • Professional animal sympathists carefully craft campaign concepts to propagandize the urban/suburban “ignorati” so they can reap untaxed donations and enjoy cushy expense accounts with first class perks.

The facts are that the ewes’ own lambs are often heavier than the kiddies who ride on them. And it’s a very common daily occurrence for their lambs to stand on their backs.

Rams weigh up to 50 percent more than ewes; in mating them, rams place the heavier half of their bodies on the ewes’ backs and hind legs. The ewes can easily take it.

Mutton bustin’ takes place on soft sand and sawdust covered arenas. The risks to child and sheep are very low, much lower than risks of playing soccer, t-ball or other common urban activities.

One of the requirements for these 501(c)(3) organizations is they are forbidden by law to “influence legislation.” Yet for many years now, that seems like all they do.

Do you know why they don’t buy off the mutton bustin’ ewes and “rehabilitate” them ?

First, because that money can legally pay for leadership’s 1st-class travel, dining, housing, clothing and medical insurance, totally untaxed.

Second, because the ewes practically never get even the slightest injury in mutton bustin’: Nothing to rehab!

Third, because they really don’t know anything about sheep: They just claim to speak in animals’ behalf. And gullible and over-emotional softies toddle right down their garden path, volunteering to do jobs the well-moneyed pro sympathists could easily afford to pay for, and lavishing tons of spare dollars on them to “fight the hicks.”

Those “hicks” have far less money and far less influence than the pro-symps. If pro-symps wanted to end all animal abuse in the world, they could afford to do it overnight. But it’s too good a “cash cow” to stop milking anytime soon.

All of these untaxed groups circulating petitions to influence legislation should have their paid leadership thrown in jail and their paid and unpaid enablers. And their donors ought to be IRS audited every year for life, as a matter of course for constantly breaking the IRS rules.

These tax free, high-profit, “non” profits are sucking the life blood out of vital, low-profit industries like livestock ag, mainly populated by moms and pops who care about animals and have a lot at stake.

The pro-symps call for “compromise,” but they have nothing to “give up.” Compromise requires both sides give up things until agreements are reached.

Fight the pro-symps! They’re awfully slick: Don’t be sucked in by them!
