ACE remains doubtful EPA can get E15 rule done by 6/1

The EPA has yet to provide the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) with certainty the year-round E15 rule will be in place for the summer driving season.

Senior vice president Ron Lamberty says ACE met with EPA officials during its annual DC fly-in this week.

“I think they still have the goal of getting it done in time for June first, but that got complicated when they added in some parts from the regs rule that had not passed before.”

He tells Brownfield those proposals would make it impossible for some retailers to continue blending E15.

“That’s pretty counter-productive. And then there was some discussion about RINs and how they were handled (and) small refinery exemptions. None of those things were handled the way we wanted.”

Lamberty says combining the E15 language with RIN reform further complicates the rulemaking process.

He adds EPA has also failed to come up with a plan to reallocate ethanol volume lost to oil refinery exemptions.
