ACE: Don’t overlook permanent fix to E15 sales as summer driving season approaches

Despite urgent requests from the ag industry to authorize E15 this summer, a biofuels group says a long-term solution can’t be overlooked.

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says extreme and unusual circumstances remain in the fuel industry. “We all know that the impact of the price of oil has on retail fuel prices and the fuel supply situation is worse than a year ago when the Biden administration made the decision to allow E15 year round.”

Speaking with reporters Thursday about ACE’s fly-in meetings with lawmakers in Washington D.C., Jennings said regional patchwork of E15 authorizations isn’t good enough. “We think the case has been made to this administration through calls from members of Congress and advocacy on our part that those emergency steps that were taken in 2022 need to be taken once again in 2023.  We feel cautiously optimistic.”

Other priorities included: support for The Consumer and Fueler Retailer Choice Act to allow permanent year round sales of E15, support for the Next Generation Fuels Act to leverage higher octane fuels and ensure clean fuel policies reward producers and biofuels producers.
