ACE CEO not convinced electricity is the fuel of tomorrow

The CEO of the American Coalition for Ethanol is not convinced electricity is the fuel of tomorrow.

Brian Jennings says automakers are under enormous pressure from regulators to electrify the vehicle fleet and some believe most customers want EV’s.

“And I think what’s going on today is there’s an element of what the automakers say about ‘we’ve got to figure this out quickly because we’re going to electrify everything.’ And I think a bit of that we need to take with a grain of salt.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the 2023 National Ethanol Conference in Orlando Wednesday, He drew a comparison to 2006 when automakers promoted flex-fuel vehicles because he says it was politically popular.

And Jennings suggests doing away with liquid fuels is not realistic or practical.

“Nevertheless, we do have to move quickly because we know decarbonization policies are going to keep coming.”

Jennings says despite some growth, EV’s still represent less than one percent of all vehicles in the U.S., so the best way to decarbonize the transportation sector is with biofuels.
