A mostly dry week for Minnesota crops

Minnesota crops are doing well in most areas but 23% of the cropland is short of moisture.  USDA reporters say 68% of Minnesota’s fields have adequate topsoil moisture and 72% adequate subsoil moisture. Southwestern Minnesota below the Minnesota river had no new rainfall last week.

Ninety-two percent of the corn is now in the dough stage with 47% of that now dented.  The corn silage harvest has begun, and 9% of the silage is already harvested.

Fifty-three percent of the soybeans are in good condition, with 30% reported as fair.  Twenty-five percent of the soybeans are coloring.

Fifty-five percent of Minnesota’s dry edible beans are dropping leaves, and 60% of the crop is in good condition and 10% are excellent. 

Seventy-three percent of the state’s sunflowers are in good condition and 8% are excellent.

Sugarbeets are doing very well with 56% of the crop in excellent condition and 22% reported as good.

The potato harvest is 15% finished, and 67% of the potatoes are reported as good with 29% in excellent condition.

Farmers in Minnesota had just over six days suitable for fieldwork last week, and many were harvesting small grains, chopping corn silage, and cutting hay.
