A long list of farmer concerns for 2023

There is a lot of uncertainty looming as farmers prepare for the 2023 growing season.

Southern Illinois grain farmer Dean Campbell, of Randolph County, tells Brownfield farm finances are top of mind.

“Trying to make that budget for next year and just keep everything in good financial status is the biggest concern right now.”

He says there is a growing list of unknown factors that could impact a farmer’s bottom line.

“Where are our chemical costs going to go? What are our input costs going to be? What is the status of transportation issues? We have a reasonable crop in the bin right now and we are going to have to move it. Will the river keep going? Will we have an issue with rail?”

Campbell says he’s concerned about the transportation of inputs and grain as the calendar turns to 2023.
