97% of South Dakota corn, 93% of soybeans planted

The USDA says planting is winding down in South Dakota.

Ninety-seven percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, compared to 100% last year. Eighty-five percent of the crop has emerged.

Ninety-three percent of soybeans are planted, compared to the five-year-average of 89 percent. Fifty-five percent of the crop has emerged.

Ninety-six percent of the spring wheat crop has emerged with eight percent headed. Winter wheat was 55 percent headed.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies were rated 67 and 66 percent adequate, respectively.
