95% of Indiana corn, 88% of soybeans planted

The USDA says ideal conditions in Indiana last week allowed growers to all but wrap up corn planting and replanting.

Ninety-five percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, and 85 percent is emerged. The crop is rated 68 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans are not far behind with 88 percent of the crop planted and 74 percent emerged. Soybeans are 69 percent good to excellent.

Winter wheat conditions improved slightly. Ninety percent of the crop is headed, and 66 percent is rated good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 66 percent complete and the first cutting of other hay is 58 percent complete.
