77% of U.S. corn, 73% of soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA says early development stages for corn and soybeans remain faster than average. Planting got off to a slow start in many areas this year because of weather and current conditions in the Cornbelt range from flood to drought, but overall, both crops are considered to be in good shape, with the USDA’s 2018 planted acreage totals out Friday and new production estimates due July 12th.

As of Sunday, 5% of U.S. corn is silking, compared to the five year average of 3%, and 77% of the crop is rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week.

95% of soybeans have emerged and 12% are blooming, both faster than normal, with 73% of the crop rated good to excellent, steady with a week ago.

41% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 33% usually this time of year, and 38% of the crop is called good to excellent, 1% lower than last week.

77% of spring wheat is in good to excellent shape, down 1%, with 34% of the crop headed.

49% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, a 1% week to week increase.
