69% of U.S. corn, soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA’s national crop condition rating for soybeans improved slightly over the past week, while corn held steady following a week of mixed weather across the U.S.

As of Sunday, 69% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, unchanged on the week, with 59% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 54%, and 9% at the dough making stage, compared to 7% on average.

69% of U.S. soybeans are in good to excellent shape, up 1% from last week, with 64% blooming, compared to the usual pace of 57%, and 25% at the pod setting stage, compared to 21% typically in mid-July.

74% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 68% a week ago and 75% on average.

91% of spring wheat has headed, compared to 94% on average, and 68% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, steady with a week ago.

73% of cotton is squaring and 27% of the crop is setting bolls, both slower than normal, and 47% of the crop is called good to excellent, up 3% on the week.

32% of rice has headed, compared to the usual pace of 39%, and 73% of the crop is rated good to excellent, a week to week decline of 1%.

35% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, 1% less than last week.

The USDA’s next set of production numbers is out August 12th.
