58% of Ohio corn, 59% of soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA says mild conditions and isolated showers helped farmers complete oat harvest last week in Ohio.

According to the latest crop progress and condition report, 58 percent of the corn crop is in good to excellent condition. Eighty-five percent of the crop is in the dough stage and 35 percent dented. Two percent of the state’s corn crop is mature.

Fifty-nine percent of soybeans are in good to excellent condition, with 92 percent setting pods and two percent dropping leaves.

Eighty-two percent of third-crop alfalfa hay is cut, while 88 percent of second-crop other hay, and 51 percent third-crop other hay is harvested.
