52% of U.S. corn, 75% of soybeans harvested

The U.S. corn harvest has finally pulled ahead of the halfway mark. It’s been a slow year in general for corn and for soybeans, but conditions in many U.S. growing areas were finally dry enough last week to allow for significant progress.

As of Sunday, 52% of U.S. corn is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 75%, while 96% of the crop has reached maturity. 58% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, unchanged on the week.

75% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 87% on average.

89% of winter wheat is planted, compared to 88% normally, and 71% has emerged, compared to 74% typically this time of year. 57% of winter wheat is in good to excellent shape, up 1% from a week ago.

53% of cotton is harvested, compared to 51% on average.

New USDA supply, demand, and production estimates are out Friday.
