52% of Ohio corn, 59% of soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA says timely rains and cooler temperatures helped improve crops in Ohio last week.

Crop condition ratings improved to 52 percent of corn and 59 percent of soybeans rated good to excellent.

Eighty-five percent of the corn crop is silking and 18 percent is in the dough stage. Eighty-eight percent of soybeans are blooming, and 51 percent are setting pods.

The third cutting of alfalfa hay is 28 percent complete.

Eighty-six percent of oats are harvested.
