41% of U.S. corn, 49% of soybeans harvested

This year’s corn and soybean harvests continue to move faster than average. Harvest conditions were favorable in many areas over the past week, but delays were an issue in parts of the region last week and will likely also be a factor this week.

The USDA says 41% of corn is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 31%, and 94% has reached maturity, compared to 86% on average, with 60% of the crop rated good to excellent, 1% higher.

49% of soybeans are harvested, compared to the usual rate of 40%, and 91% are dropping leaves, compared to 89% on average, with 59% in good to excellent shape, up 1%.

60% of winter wheat is planted, in-line with the typical pace, with 31% emerged, compared to 35% on average.

20% of cotton is harvested, compared to 26% on average, with 78% of bolls opening, compared to 82% normally in mid-October, and 64% of the crop called good to excellent, an increase of 2%.

81% of rice is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 85%.

24% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, up 1%.
