Wisconsin Natural Resources Board to consider wolf hunting quota Monday

Wisconsin’s Natural Resources Board will vote Monday on a possible wolf hunting quota for yet this month.

A judge ruled Thursday the state’s Department of Natural Resources did not follow existing state law requiring a wolf hunt, knowing the wolf was coming off the Endangered Species List in January.  Livestock growers have had increased depredation problems since the last wolf season in 2014 including nine confirmed and 36 unconfirmed wolf kills in 2020.

The Natural Resources Board narrowly voted January 22nd not to have a wolf hunt because DNR officials had not prepared for a season before next November and because the state’s tribes had not yet been consulted.

The Natural Resources Board is accepting online public comments prior to Monday’s special meeting.
