2022 oat production up sharply from 2021

U.S. oat production shot higher in 2022. That followed a slight increase in planted area, a big jump in harvested acreage implying lower rates of abandonment and forage use, and a modest year-to-year rise in average yield.

Production totaled 57.655 million bushels, 45% more than in 2021, with an average yield of nearly 64.8 bushels per acre, 3.5% higher, and a 37% gain in harvested area when compared to a year ago.

The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out October 12th.
