2020/21 corn, soybean inspections well ahead of 2019/20

The USDA says that as of the week ending July 15th, 2020/21 corn and soybean export inspections were down on the week and year, but remain on pace to surpass the previous marketing year. The 2021/22 marketing year started June 1st, 2021 for wheat, while 2020/21 got underway September 1st, 2020 for corn, sorghum, and soybeans. The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out August 12th.

Wheat came out at 490,626 tons, up 62,807 from the week ending July 8th, but down 21,679 from the week ending July 16th, 2020. The leading destinations were the Philippines and Mexico. About a month and a half into the 2021/22 marketing year, wheat inspections are 2,817,946 tons, compared to 3,586,880 in 2020/21.

Corn was reported at 1,000,512 tons, 1,830 lower than the previous week and 220,280 below a year ago. The top destinations were China and Mexico. With about a month and a half remaining in the 2020/21 marketing year, corn inspections are 60,163,215 tons, compared to 36,518,028 in 2019/20.

Soybeans were pegged at 143,934 tons, a decline of 57,195 from the week before and 310,785 from this time last year. The main destinations were Japan and Mexico. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 57,799,815 tons, compared to 38,321,410 a year ago.

Sorghum totaled 63,192 tons, a decrease of 10,724 on the week and 61,462 on the year. The largest single destination was China, followed by Mexico. 2020/21 sorghum inspections are 6,619,961 tons, compared to 4,266,513 in 2019/20.
