18% of U.S. corn, 16% of soybeans harvested

The U.S. corn and soybean harvests continue to run ahead of average. Conditions were good in most key growing areas over the past week, but activity in some areas was delayed by rainfall.

The USDA says 18% of U.S. corn is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 15%, while 97% has dented, compared to 94% on average, and 74% of the crop is mature, compared to the usual rate of 64%. 59% of corn is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.

16% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 13% on average, and 75% of the crop is dropping leaves, compared to 66% normally in late September, with 58% of beans in good to excellent shape, steady with a week ago.

34% of winter wheat is planted, compared to the five-year average of 32%, and 9% has emerged, compared to 8% on average.

11% of cotton is harvested, compared to 14% on average, and 60% bolls have opening, compared to the typical pace of 64%, while 65% of the crop is called good to excellent, up 1%.

61% rice is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 66%.

23% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 1% lower than last week.
