Crisis communication can aid farmers in farm safety

Agriculture remains one of the most dangerous industries in the world and Lani Jordan says farmers and ag leaders need to be ready for when a farming accident does happen.

“The best way to prevent a crisis is not to have one,” she says. “That starts with making sure you’re running a good business that is safe, that your employees have training, that you’re in regulatory compliance, and you know how to prevent things that could happen.”

She tells Brownfield there are many vulnerabilities on a farm….

“Accidents, spills, issues with grain facilities, both bin collapses and explosions are things you can work on to prevent so you don’t have that crisis,” she says.

Jordan says farmers and agribusiness leaders should have a communication plan in place.
