$12.4 million in projected sales result from virtual Illinois grain tour

The Illinois Department of Agriculture hosted its annual Illinois Grain Tour last month resulting in more than $12.4 million in projected sales.

IDOA Bureau Chief of Marketing Jackie Sambursky tells Brownfield this is the second year the event was held virtually because of international travel restrictions tied to the pandemic.

“We saw an increase in sales of more than $4 million from last year and we had 143 participants from five Latin American countries. So, we were very pleased with that.”

She says while participants are excited and hopeful for an in-person tour next year, two years of a virtual tour has allowed more people to get involved considering they can only take about 40 on an in-person tour.

“Hopefully we see some new faces on the in-person tour next year, maybe somebody who wouldn’t have come if they had not seen the virtual grain tour and the value we bring.”

This year IDOA hosted buyers from Mexico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru and the Dominican Republic and offered tours and presentations by the Illinois Soybean Association, Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Seedburro, GSI, Clarkson Grain and Marquis Energy.
