Milk futures lower, cash dairy mixed

Milk futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange ended lower midweek after the Fed held interest rates steady and cash cheese ended the day lower.

September Class III milk was down eight cents at $18.28. October 42 cents lower at $17.12. November down 40 cents at $17.25. December 19 cents lower at $17.71. January through March contracts two to six cents lower.

Dry whey up $0.0050 at $0.2875. Six sales were made at $0.2850 and $0.2875.

Blocks down $0.08 at $1.80. One trade was made at that price.

Barrels down $0.05 at $1.61. Nine trades were made from $1.61 to $1.6575.

Butter up $0.01 at $2.84. Thirteen sales were made from $2.8350 to $2.8750.

Nonfat dry milk up $0.0075 at $1.1275.
