Milk futures, cash dairy mixed

Milk futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were mixed Tuesday as was cash trade, seeing only modest gains on the global market.

October Class III milk up four cents at $21.46.  November 16 cents lower at $20.49.  December down 14 at $19.34.  January 17 cents lower at $17.59.  February through April contracts unchanged to 11 cents lower.

Dry whey unchanged at $0.3875. 

Blocks unchanged at $2.74.

Barrels up $0.0450 at $2.30.  Two trades were made at $2.27 and $2.28. 

Butter unchanged at $1.4975. 

Nonfat dry milk down $0.0125 at $1.1275.  One trade was made at that price.

The Global Dairy Trade index in New Zealand was higher for its third auction in a row. The index increased 0.4 percent to $3,159 per ton.  Losses in lactose, anhydrous milk fat, and skim milk powder were offset by gains in butter, cheddar, and whole milk powder.
