CME milk & cash dairy prices lower Tuesday

Milk futures were lower and cash dairy prices were steady to lower Tuesday on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

January Class III milk was down $0.47 at $19.07.  February was down $0.35 at $18.24.  March was down $0.07 at $18.32.  April was down $0.12 at $18.50.  May through November contracts ranged from two cents lower in September to nine cents lower in May, June, and July.

Dry whey was unchanged at $0.4150.  No sales were recorded.

Cheese prices fell considerably Tuesday.  Blocks were down $0.1375 at $1.9975.  One sale was recorded at that price.

Cheese barrels were down $0.1125 at $1.7450.  Two sales were recorded at $1.7375 and $1.7450.

Butter was unchanged at $2.38.  No sales were recorded.

Nonfat dry milk was down $0.0125 at $1.3225.  One sale was recorded at that price.

The Global Dairy Trade index in New Zealand started the year lower, down 2.8 percent. All categories posted lower trade with butter milk powder (-12.9 percent), anhydrous milk fat (-5.1 percent), and skim milk powder (-4.3 percent) seeing the largest losses.
