Profitability in the face of high inputs

Coping with the rising costs of raising a crop has left Illinois farmer Doug Winter with one primary concern: “Trying to make everything come out and remain profitable this year is probably the biggest concern that I’ve got,” Winter told Brownfield Ag News. The trio of fertilizers commonly used by Winter – diammonium phosphate (DAP), potash, and anhydrous ammonia – are making the biggest price jumps. Another point of uncertainty for Winter, who is vice-chairman of the U.S. Soybean Export Council, is herbicide availability.
