Demand is strong for quality beef

University of Missouri livestock economist Scott Brown, Thompson Research Center, Spickard, Mo., Sept. 15, 2015Livestock economist Scott Brown has no doubts about beef demand and he’s convinced that it is quality people are after.  Because of that, Brown says he’s confident that long term prices for cattle, and for beef, will be strong.  Brown, the economist, is a believer in the biological science of genetics being done by his university colleagues at an MU research facility a few hours from that institution’s main campus.  Brown says that research, geared to improving carcass quality of the U.S. cattle herd, will bring a few more of those cattle to the Prime Grade and solidify the reasons people are choosing beef in spite of its higher price.
