Behind the Scenes

Investing in the future

scholarship winners The opening luncheon for the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) Convention was all about the future.  Each year, the NAFB Foundation awards three scholarships.  The $3,000 Glenn Kummerow Scholarship, named after a true believer in the future of this industry, was awarded to Wravenna Phipps, a Senior at Oklahoma State University.  Wravenna is from Kearney, Nebraska. Matt Dolch, a junior at Iowa State University and Kurt Harms, a senior at University of Nebraska, each received a $2,500 scholarship.

All three of these young people are interested in pursuing a career in farm broadcasting.  Matt Dolch, who has worked for Brownfield affiliates KOAK and KCSI in Red Oak, Iowa, told me that his dream has been to work for Brownfield Network.  Jerry Dietz who heads up the Red Oak stations has been a valued partner for many years and is a big believer in the importance of agricultural programming, so I’m not surprised that Matt has a passion for ag communications.

We at Brownfield believe very strongly in supporting youth in agriculture.  Congratulations to Wravenna, Matt and Kurt.  Maybe some day you’ll be a part of the Brownfield team!

Matt’s parents, Steve and Linda Dolch and his sister Mikayla, came to support him at the Scholarship Luncheon.
