Behind the Scenes
Clark County Livestock Auction
Brownfield’s Bob Meyer has an annual gig at the Clark County (Wisconsin) Fair.
Randy and I have done this sale for something like 25 years or more. Our goal each year is to have a little fun and make the sale enjoyable for the kids and the buyers. As an auctioneer, Randy moves fast and the buyers know, if you want to bid, bid now! This year was exceptionally hot and humid so we really moved and the buyers appreciated it. We sold 149 animals in two-and-a-half hours.
I cannot say enough about the crew of people behind us who keep the steady flow of hogs, sheep and steers moving. Clark County is the #1 dairy county in Wisconsin and there was some apprehension this year given the current state of the dairy economy, but the businesses were there to buy and they were generous once again.
Hogs averaged about $2.25 per pound, lambs around $3.00 and steers about $1.00.
