MO River traffic shut down between KC and St. Louis

The Missouri River between Kansas City and St. Louis has been closed to navigation indefinitely by the U.S. Coast Guard because of flooding.

Jud Kneuvean with the Kansas City Corps of Engineers says there are only a few exceptions,

“There are waivers that can be obtained so that vessels can tend to their moored barges and other vessels along the bank. There are instances where local dredging will ask for a waiver.”

The river is closed from mile markers ZERO to 380. More rainfall is forecast in Missouri over the next few days.

More than 40 levees have been broken or overtopped in Missouri.
