A Missouri FFA student wants lawmakers to invest more money into FFA and Skills USA. She’s Kelsey Gillanwater, a senior at Central High School’s Hilliard Technical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri, who tells Brownfield Ag News, “This is like the future and this is the support (we need). And, it kind of all started with agriculture. You know, programs like Skills USA and all kinds of things that start out kids from a high school career and get you into bigger and better places.”

Gillanwater spoke with Brownfield at the Missouri State Capitol for FFA legislative day Wednesday where she met with several lawmakers in her district. She says she told them they are investing in the future of agriculture when they support FFA and programs like it, “Because it just supports every kid that wants to go into a future career and we’re already building ourselves instead of doing it in college.”

Gillanwater helps on her family’s row crop farm, restores tractors and raises ducks. She plans to major in biology and agriculture in college.
