Missouri dairy program checks to go out in March

Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn, Missouri House Budget Committee hearing

Missouri’s Ag Director says her department has more than 110 dairy producers who have applied for coverage of their federal Margin Protection Program premiums, so far, “We’re accepting the applications right now. Applications can come in until the end of the month and then those checks will be cut in March.”

Ag Director Chris Chinn testified about the governor’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget recommendations at the state Capitol this morning.

Seven-hundred-thousand dollars has been allocated for the Missouri Dairy Revitalization Act which is being funded for the first time since it passed three years ago, “According to FSA, there were over 300 (producers) who had participated in the (MPP) program. So, at this time, it’s adequately funded for the people who have applied. But, we expect more applications to come in by the end of the month.”

Chinn says they might fall a little bit short, depending on how many dairy producers apply for reimbursement over the past three years.

Forty-thousand-dollars is allocated for eight scholarships under the dairy law, to go to students who work in dairy production.
