New sustainability metrics for beef industry

 

Sustainability metrics for the beef industry are now available to measure progress throughout the value chain.

The U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef has developed the metrics for each stage of the animal’s lifecycle through the food service chain.

Nancy Labbe with the World Wildlife Fund, and a member of group, says the metrics took two years to develop and address important areas in the beef sustainability conversation.

The self-assessment tool measures sustainability factors including the beef industry’s impact on water resources, air quality and greenhouse gas emissions, and land resources, among others.
