Ohio planting progress slows

Intermittent rain showers prevented significant planting progress last week for Ohio farmers.

On average, there were less than two days available for fieldwork and some frost damage was reported in corn and soybean fields.

Forty-nine percent of corn has been planted, compared to the five year average of 57 percent, 24 percent has emerged.

Soybeans are 19 percent planted, compared to the five year average of 27 percent, five percent has emerged.

The winter wheat condition is rated 78 percent good to excellent, 91 percent of the crop is jointed, right on pace with last year.
