Iowa corn condition down 1%, soybean rating down 3% on week

A dry week across Iowa pulled crop conditions down.

USDA’s latest crop report says corn considered good to excellent dropped a percentage point to 80 percent, while soybeans in that category fell from 78 to 75 percent.

Corn silking or beyond reached 66 percent, compared to 77 percent last year and 76 percent normally.

Soybean development is about a week behind a year ago and two days behind the five-year average with 72 percent blooming.

More than 80 percent of oats are turning color, with harvest just shy of 40 percent.

And the second cutting of alfalfa is at 77 percent, with some farmers beginning a third cutting.
