Variable crop conditions in Western Illinois

Farmers are eager to begin harvest in earnest and determine the impact growing season weather has had on yields. Pioneer Field Agronomist Brad Mason tells Brownfield from Macomb north to the Quad Cities, it’s been a roller coaster ride with everything from drought to floods to wind.

Because of nutrient deficiencies caused by weather conditions, stalk viability is a concern in the corn crop. Soybeans, Mason said, are tough to gauge. There is some Sudden Death Syndrome and even white mold present, but overall fields are clean and growers are optimistic about yields.
