A cool, wet week for some Minnesota farmers

Cool and wet conditions kept Minnesota farmers out of the fields for part of last week.  USDA’s National Ag Statistic Service reporters say most of the state’s corn is silking and 54% is in the dough stage.  The overall condition of the crop is better, with 81% of Minnesota’s corn rated 81% good to excellent.  Eight-four percent of the soybeans are setting pods, and 74% of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Most dry beans are setting pods.  Sugarbeets, sunflowers, and dry beans are in mostly good to excellent condition.

The harvest is progressing with 26% of spring wheat, 47% of the oats, and 54% of the state’s barley harvested.  Fourteen percent of Minnesota’s potatoes are harvested.

Hayfield and pasture conditions declined a little last week, but the hay that was cut is rated 71% good to excellent.
