Programs ICON

High production levels and increased international competition pushed U.S. cheese stocks to record levels last month.

At the end of April, the USDA says cheese stocks, at 1.2 billion pounds, were up 12% on the year and the highest total for that month since 1917.

Butter came out at 298 million pounds, a 28% year to year jump, also on rising production levels.

April’s dairy production numbers are out June 2nd.
