Ohio Director’s Choice wines awarded

Exploring Ohio Wine Country (4)_editThe winners of the top three wines in the Ohio Ag Director’s Choice awards have been picked out of 20 contenders.  The best white wine award goes to Firelands Winery in Sandusky. The best red wine to Valley Vineyards of Morrow. And, the best specialty wine to Gervasi Vineyard of Canton, Ohio.

White Wine: 2014 Firelands Gewurztraminer, Firelands Winery, Sandusky

Red Wine: 2012 Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve,  Valley Vineyards, Morrow

Specialty Wine:  Gervasi Sognata Ice Wine, Gervasi Vineyard, Canton

The winners are eligible for the Ohio Quality Wine designation. The designation is given for wines that are made from at least 90% Ohio grown grapes and meet other criteria.
