April poultry production down 2%

The USDA says poultry production during April was down 2% on the year at 3.835 billion pounds.

The preliminary live weight was also down 2% at 5.057 billion pounds and slaughter numbers were below April 2015, with chickens down 3%, turkeys 4% lower, and ducks declining 8%. Average live weights for all categories were steady to 1% higher.

So far this year, U.S. poultry production is 15.479 billion pounds, 2% ahead of last year’s pace.
