Farmer interest in digital agriculture is growing

basic_field_weather-66c711f5For one company, digital tools are gaining in popularity with farmers.

Anthony Osborn, Vice President of Marketing for the Climate Corporation says they have seen record adoption of their digital agriculture platform in 2015.

“We’ve seen farmers coming in and map more than 75 million acres on our system and that’s up from 50 million acres in 2014,” Osborn said. “The exciting thing about that for us is that represents nearly 45 percent of all corn and soybeans planted across the U.S.”

Osborn says Climate Pro, their premium web and mobile product has also grown from 1 million acres last year to more than 5 million acres this year.

Osborn says because of the weather challenges in 2015, this is the perfect year to put these tools in the hands of farmers.

“One of our key features is the ability of the farmer to input their particular field level information, about their nitrogen application and their soil characteristics and really look at the impacts of weather has had on the availability of nitrogen,” said Osborn. “Then use that data to make decisions about taking additional actions on that field if any are necessary.”
