Weather

Largely favorable Corn Belt weather pattern

Across the Corn Belt, warm, mostly dry weather favors a rapid pace of corn and soybean development. However, locally heavy showers are returning to the upper Midwest, trailed by a push of cooler air.

On the Plains, showery, markedly cooler weather prevails in Montana and the Dakotas, following last week’s heat wave. Hot conditions have also eased across the southern Plains, although some areas are still in need of rain to boost soil moisture and stabilize crop and pasture conditions.

In the South, a weak low-pressure system over the Mississippi Delta is helping to focus beneficial showers. Rain showers also dot the western Gulf Coast region. In addition, a cold front is draped across the northern tier of the region. Despite the increase in shower activity, much of the interior Southeast remains in need of rain.

In the West, monsoon-related showers remain active across southern sections of Arizona and New Mexico. Most other areas of the West are experiencing hot, dry conditions. In California, large wildfires remain active near Big Sur and Santa Clarita.
