FMC launches Authority Maxx
Farmers attending the 2014 Commodity Classic had the opportunity to learn about the new Authority Maxx preemergence herbicide for soybeans from FMC. Nick Hustedde, Tech Service in Illinois and Wisconsin told Brownfield this product can be used at higher rates and is rotation friendly. Authority Maxx offers more flexibility in postemergence applications because of its residual activity and reduces selection pressure for glyphosate-and ALS-tolerant weeds.
For many farmers today, glyphosate resistant weeds like Palmer Amaranth and waterhemp are a problem. Hustedde said with the ability to use higher rates of Authority Maxx, there is greater residual which addresses these weed species in their in-season emergence characteristics.
Hustedde’s advice to growers in 2014 is to integrate herbicide programs by including multiple modes of action.
“This is going to help to keep our current technologies effective,” he said.
