Conaway: ARC/PLC, Dairy and Cotton need fixing

The Chairman of the House Ag Committee says there are three main issues to deal with in the 2018 Farm Bill…

“Cotton and the dairy program and the ARC County issues are three that we’ll have to address.”

Texas Congressman Mike Conaway says the Stacked Income Protection Plan (STAX) doesn’t work for cotton crop insurance.  “STAX won’t work, and I’ve got to get cotton back into Title I, so that’s already one change we’ll have to make.”

He says the dairy industry is in the process of drafting recommendations to improve the dairy Margin Protection Program for all farmers.  “Many of the dairy producers, they’re coming with some specific ideas, I think they’ll have a program where the processors and the producers are going to be in the on the same page.”

Conaway says he’s confident the next farm bill will be finished by the end of this year, on schedule. Conaway spoke with ag reporters during Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
