Nebraska Showmanship Contest

2008

Brownfield presents the 3rd Annual Nebraska Master Showmanship Contest for 4-H and FFA students. The contest will be held in conjunction with the Nebraska State Fair on August 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. CDT in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.

The showmanship contest is a statewide competition with one exhibitor per county. Each exhibitor will show all three species (beef, swine and sheep) in six 20 minute rounds. The exhibitor must be at least fourteen years of age and must be enrolled in a 4-H or FFA livestock project in their represented county. Each county will select one overall showmanship winner prior to the state event to compete for educational scholarships and prizes.

Overall Winners

  • 1st place overall – Jessica Wallander
  • 2nd place overall – Katie Frenzen
  • 3rd place overall – Lauren Ibach

Division Winners

  • Written- Kellie Wise
  • Swine-Kade Nelseon
  • Beef- Drew Feller
  • Sheep- Jessica Wallander

Participants supply their own livestock for competition. Winners of each division (beef, sheep, swine and written livestock test) and the top three overall winners receive scholarships. All participants in the state event receive a t-shirt and a scholarship of $50. In addition, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture is also providing prizes to the winners.

Winners of the each the beef, swine, sheep and written livestock test divisions receive a scholarship of $300 each, and the top three overall premier showmen receive scholarships of $2000, $1000 and $500.

The contest is sponsored by Brownfield, WAITT AgriBusiness, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Nebraska Farm Bureau, College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska, Sullivan Supply, Orscheln Farm & Home, Nebraska Farmer Magazine, Nebraska Pork Producers and Nebraska Corn Board.
