Buddy system and planning key to grain bin safety

h2013_grain_Bin_FPSKen McGuire with the Ohio State University Agriculture Safety & Health program says the key to staying safe at ALL times is pre-planning.

“If you think about and plan out the actions around your grain handling facility and you actually think out and plan out what happens if there is an emergency at least you’re giving your best effort to stay safe,” says McGuire.

McGuire tells Brownfield farmers should ALWAYS have another person working with them who is away from the bin or grain wagon in case of emergencies. If an accident happens, call 911 and then be on standby in case the rescue workers need help.
